The TEC Car Audio SPL-X system comes complete with two microphones - one is a conventional electret type capable of accurate measurements between 75dB and 130dB, and this may also be used for taking spot frequency measurements (when used with a suitable test CD) which can then be plotted onto a graph to calculate frequency response. The other is a custom designed and manufactured high-level pressure sensor capable of measuring SPL from 130dB to 185dB. It has been designed specifically for use with the SPL-X. The main device is able to sense which microphone has been connected and automatically adjusts its input sensitivity. (NOTE - since Autumn 2007 only one sensor is supplied for measurements up to and beyond 180dB).
Designed and built in Italy, this has to be the most user-friendly device for measuring high SPL in a car. The panel is a standard DIN size, allowing it to be mounted in the dash or in the optional instrument case. The case includes a built-in mains supply and battery pack, making it ideal of use by installers to measure client vehicles, or for competition use.
The high visibility blue LCD display shows peak SPL level (peak hold) alongside the realtime SPL level, and can be switched to show battery voltage condition.
This is a self-contained SPL meter that does not require connection to a computer to do its job, but it does have an external RS232 interface so that the metered results can be shown via a PC on to an external monitor. The necessary software is a free download. MORE
